NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - New York City straphangers will really want to hang on as there are many twists and turns ahead.

New MTA Chairman Thomas Prendergast told the New York Daily News that he believes avoiding another fare hike in 2015 is unlikely.

He also said that, over the next five years, you can expect closures and service changes as the agency spends billions to replace electrical and track components swamped by superstorm Sandy.

They’re also working to protect against future flooding.

The new chairman said he favors an alert system to let motormen know when someone has fallen on the tracks.

He wants more customer service agents in stations, more robotrains with computers doing most of the driving, and more countdown clocks.
